Worth to visit: Situbondo Beach in East Java
written by: Fitri WM
Situbondo is a white sandy Beach, that is located in Situbondo city, East Java and lies at the north coast. It is surrounded by forsts and hills. The ocean at Situbondo is very calm and great for swimming.
At that time we arrived from Malang at midningt, we went Pasuruan city then Probolinggo city and arrived in Situbondo city at 4 am.
On our way to Situbondo we also went Probolinggo city and visited a Java-Bali power station. It´s named is Paiton power station. Paiton, as we saw it in the night is so beautiful and interesting because of so many lamps, luminousity through the power station, magnificient, high, marvellous…
Java-Bali Paiton power station is located in Probolinggo in the middle apart mountain. The main source for it´s power comes from coal, imported from Kalimantan. The architect Java-Bali Paiton power station is from India. I’ve been told by my guide when I got travel to Bali last year.
After we passed Paiton power plant we went through dibble forest. Why did we say dibble forest?
Because some forests in Indonesia that we passed through at that night, forest in probolinggo was really dibble.
While were dringing, we saw on right way, a high steeply sloping riverbank and on left side we could see the valley.
The road was very narrow, dark and there were no vehicle through that road until we got stuck behind a truck. Only our car and that truck. The truck drove very slow, but we have no courage to pass it.
After drivinig a long time slowly behin the truck, we finally reach Situbondo city, but it was still a long time to get to the Situbondo white sandy beach. After another two hours we finally reached Situbondo beach.
Normally, we should had bought tickets, but the ticket booth was closed, so we went on without paying.
On the beach were many poeple selling, food, rental public bathrooms and some staff to keep the beach clean, but they were mostly just sitting around, talking to each other.
After we arrived and took a rest, we wanted to see the sunrise at the beach, but because the left side was coverd by a mountain, we couldn´t see it.
Shortly after the sunrise, the cleaning-personal started to do their job, therefore the beach is always very clean and cozy.
While I was sleeping in the car, suddlenly a ticket boy came and asked for our ticket. First, he just wanted to make us pay, without giving us the tickets, but later, after my mother made clear, that we wouldn´t pay, until we really get a ticket, he handed over a legitimate ticket.
We always have to be careful at tourist attractions in indonesia. If not, usually the officals will try to cheat us in one way or another. So many times we got those experiences.
So, as a tourist, be careful.
After that, we walked in the edge of the beach of Situbondo white sandy beach
the wave is so calm.. really so calm.
The beach got more crowded now, but it wasn´t as crowded as beaches in bali or yogyakarta.
After that, we walked in the edge of the beach of Situbondo white sandy beach
the wave is so calm.. really so calm. There were sail boats at the shoreside, which can be rented from their owners.
You could also rent a canoe for just 15,000 - 20,000 rupiah, but we chose one of the sail boats. The price for them is about 50,000 rupiahs.
On the sailboat we were 7 people plus the owner, who navigated us out to the ocean, until we could see corals and fishes. The underwater scenery was so wonderful.
The wave and the wind were so calm, so we really enjoyed this cruise.
At the right and the left side of the beach, you can buy several variants, mostly fish, of food in small warungs, but caused by the junk from the many food-sellers, the beach was not that clean here.
But over all the Situbondo white sandy beach was really nice and worth as visit. The beaches in Bali or or Parangtritis in Yogyakarta, are (in my view) often too crowded, dirty and complicated.
So, the situbondo white sandy beach has become a new reference for a vacation with my lovely family
There is another really nice quiet beach on the south coast of Java and just a few people know about it, because it´s not really famous.
This beach is located in east Java. Near my grandmom’s place. Wanna know this beach? Wait to another story in this blog…
P.S. (from Administrator): Thanks to Fitri for this nice travel tip!
